Panasonic is a global leader in developing and manufacturing electronic technologies and solutions for various industries, including consumer electronics, housing, automotive, and business-to-business solutions. With a commitment to improving the lives of people around the world, Panasonic has established itself as a trusted brand synonymous with innovation, quality, and reliability. As an SAP managed services customer of T-Systems, Panasonic has continued to leverage cutting-edge technology to streamline its operations and maintain its competitive edge in a fast-paced, technology-driven market.
Panasonic’s extensive global operations rely heavily on its SAP landscape to manage its complex business processes. This SAP ecosystem is notably intricate, consisting of several non-production and production systems, each playing a critical role. The landscape encompasses a multitude of modules and environments, reflecting the diverse and dynamic nature of Panasonic’s operations. Given the scale and complexity of Panasonic’s SAP environment, maintaining optimal performance is essential to the company’s daily operations and long-term success.
Even though Panasonic’s SAP landscape was solid, the company is challenged with its aging observability solution based on SiteScope (now owned by OpenText, formerly owned by Micro Focus, HP, and Mercury Interactive) which no longer actively supports SAP monitoring. There is a need for detailed monitoring, alerting, and reporting, to ensure service level agreement (SLA) compliance. On top of that, the existing monitoring tools weren’t delivering timely or accurate alerts, making it tough for Panasonic to catch problems before they turned into bigger disruptions or outages.
The absence of comprehensive reporting capabilities led to delays in identifying and resolving performance issues. Furthermore, the existing monitoring tools failed to provide timely and accurate alerts, leaving Panasonic vulnerable to system outages and performance degradation.
The primary concern was the complexity of monitoring and reporting on various performance metrics. Panasonic had a diverse set of metrics crucial for its operations based on SAP, Oracle, and Linux, which were supported by IT-Conductor’s Application Performance Management (APM) solution out of the box. IT-Conductor also provided custom configurations to extend monitoring and reporting beyond the standard set of KPIs.
As part of the AWS ISV Workload Migration Program (WMP), IT-Conductor played a key role in modernizing Panasonic’s observability capabilities by leveraging its advanced cloud-based APM solution. This partnership not only modernized Panasonic's infrastructure but also strengthened IT-Conductor’s position as a trusted leader in cloud-based performance management. The success of this collaboration has been instrumental in expanding IT-Conductor’s reach and reinforcing its role in the AWS ecosystem, marking a significant milestone in the company’s growth.
To understand the nature and complexity of Panasonic’s SAP landscape, IT-Conductor embarked on a mission to deliver a performance management solution that would meet the company’s specific operational demands. Panasonic's SAP environment, with its many SIDs, needed a careful approach to effectively cover all its performance monitoring needs.

IT-Conductor’s full-stack APM solution provided end-to-end visibility into Panasonic's SAP environment. Implementing real-time monitoring across all SAP systems meant that their IT team could access up-to-the-minute data on system health, performance, and utilization. This real-time visibility was crucial for identifying performance bottlenecks or anomalies as they occurred, reducing the risk of prolonged system downtimes or inefficiencies.

In addition, automated alerting mechanisms were configured to meet Panasonic’s specific requirements, ensuring that its IT team was immediately informed of any issues that could impact system performance. These alerts were tailored to distinguish between minor warnings and critical system failures, enabling Panasonic to prioritize responses effectively. The precision of these alerts helped resolve issues more swiftly and prevent minor issues from escalating into significant problems.

What truly sets IT-Conductor apart is its adaptability. IT-Conductor’s APM platform is not just a one-size-fits-all solution; it was customized to incorporate Panasonic's unique performance metrics and reporting needs. This flexibility demonstrated IT-Conductor’s commitment to delivering a solution that was not only powerful but also precisely aligned with Panasonic’s operational goals. By working closely with their IT team, IT-Conductor ensured that the solution was seamlessly integrated into their existing infrastructure, providing a user-friendly interface that facilitated smooth operations and efficient monitoring.
This tailored approach highlights IT-Conductor’s customer-centric philosophy, ensuring that Panasonic’s complex SAP landscape was not just managed but optimized to support the company’s ongoing growth and innovation.
This collaboration between Panasonic and IT-Conductor led to several critical performance enhancements, significantly boosting the efficiency, reliability, and overall effectiveness of Panasonic’s SAP operations.
Figure 6: Realized Performance Enhancements for Panasonic
Enhanced Reporting Capabilities: With IT-Conductor’s customized APM solution, Panasonic gained access to detailed and accurate reporting on all critical performance metrics. The improved reporting functionality not only covered the initially unsupported metrics but also surpassed the capabilities of Panasonic’s previous monitoring tools. This enhanced visibility allowed their IT team to proactively identify potential issues and optimize system performance, leading to better decision-making and increased operational efficiency.
Improved Alerting of Issues: The integration of advanced alerting mechanisms enabled Panasonic to detect and respond to performance issues in real-time. By receiving precise, timely alerts, their IT team can now address potential problems before they escalate into significant disruptions, ensuring continuous and reliable operation of the SAP landscape. This proactive monitoring approach helps minimize downtime and maintains system integrity.
Accurate Job Monitoring: IT-Conductor leveraged its threshold override functionality to provide Panasonic with more accurate job monitoring. This feature allowed the system to adjust thresholds dynamically based on the specific context of each job, reducing the occurrence of false alarms and ensuring that critical jobs were closely monitored. By fine-tuning thresholds, IT-Conductor enabled Panasonic to focus on genuinely significant issues, thereby improving the precision of their monitoring and reducing unnecessary interventions.
Streamlined Issue Resolution: The combination of enhanced reporting, real-time alerts, and accurate job monitoring significantly streamlined Panasonic’s issue resolution processes. Their IT team could swiftly identify and address the root causes of performance problems, leading to faster resolutions and a reduction in recurring issues. IT-Conductor also can expedite detection and notifications into T-Systems and Panasonic’s ITSM ticketing system for downstream actions by the operations team.
The successful onboarding of Panasonic’s SAP landscape onto IT-Conductor’s full-stack APM platform exemplifies how a collaborative approach, involving key partners like T-Systems, can overcome complex business challenges. By tailoring its solution to meet Panasonic’s unique requirements, IT-Conductor not only enhanced the performance and reliability of Panasonic’s SAP systems but also provided a sturdy platform for future growth and innovation.
This collaboration highlights IT-Conductor’s capability to deliver flexible, scalable, and customer-centric solutions that drive business success. As Panasonic continues to innovate and expand its operations, the ongoing collaboration with IT-Conductor will undoubtedly play a crucial role in maintaining the efficiency of its SAP landscape.
